Diversity is important and without inclusion it is merely a number!
An open, honest, safe and caring culture where everyone can bring their abilities and personalities and where diversity of views are appreciated -That’s when we get the value of diversity.
We do have a job to do. If we do not recruit more women and do not give women the chance in leadership roles, we will be losing out on perspectives, skills and traits .
And we need to make sure we do not only recruit and promote but also include.
Openly Madelene shared how she has been recruited and promoted to leadership roles several times, but it was not always easy to be a female leader. She has been told to her face that she only got the job because she was a young girl. She has been sexually harassed by a manager. She has had people getting up in meetings, patting her on the top of her head calling her “Sweetheart”, “Mye Dear” and “Oh you little thing” when she has spoken up in discussions.
Would that have happened to a man?
Thank you Madelene for sharing some of your story and for being so authentic!
